Ruth LePoidevin trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London. She spent the following three years teaching at secondary school level before transferring to primary teaching when she moved to Essex.

She joined the Tiptree & District Choral Society in 1971, initially as a singer, and then became its accompanist in 1974, a post she held and much enjoyed for thirty years. After retiring from full time teaching Ruth also accompanied a variety of musical activities ranging from private singing lessons, keep fit classes and operatic productions.

A hand complaint forced Ruth to give up her role as an accompanist but she continues to enjoy making music, along with her many friends, as a singing member of the choral society.

Ruth considered it a great honour to be invited to become president of The Society in 2006.
